Infertility
Infertility affects one in every six couples in New Zealand. At Nurture, we understand the grief and emotional anguish infertility can cause, and how overwhelming the need to have children can be.
Nurture’s research aims to understand the causes of infertility, improve treatments and increase the chances for infertile couples to have a child. Already, our research and reviews of randomised trials have contributed significantly to improvements in the treatments now available to infertile couples.
Couples who are unable to conceive naturally after 12 months are considered ‘infertile’. Fortunately, most infertile couples can be treated with simple, non-invasive procedures such as hormone injections or minor surgical repair. Only 10% will require expensive, high tech interventions such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF). As our research progresses, we hope to reduce this percentage even further.
