Assessing effective treatments for Endometriosis
Neil Johnson, Tal Jacobson
Endometriosis is a condition where the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows at sites outside the uterus. One in every six women in New Zealand is affected by the disease, which causes painful periods and infertility. There is no cure for endometriosis; surgery or medical treatment will only alleviate the symptoms.
To gain a better understanding of effective treatments for endometriosis, Neil Johnson and Tal Jacobson are building an endometriosis database. With the permission of participants, information will be collected about women with endometriosis, their symptoms, treatments and outcomes. The database will provide a crucial way for researchers to assess the effectiveness of different treatments that aim to enhance fertility or reduce the pain associated with endometriosis. In the future, this will help to give medical professionals a better idea of which treatments to offer women with endometriosis who wish to become pregnant.
